BUNNELL, Fla. -- A pit-bull escaped from a cage at an animal shelter, jumped into a nearby mini-van and attacked two children.
Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a dog attack Thursday at the Second Chance Animal Rescue in Bunnell, according to a report from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. A volunteer and her two children were allegedly attacked by a black and white pit-bull that escaped from his cage, and jumped into the passenger side window of the volunteer's min-van. Her two children aged 3 and 5 were inside the van.
According a police report, the dog went straight to the 3-year-old boy who was sitting in the middle row, latched on his head and dragged him to the floor of the mini-van. The dog attacked the woman's 5-year-old daughter, biting her on the shoulder and dragged her to the floor.
The female victim was able to gain control of the dog, put it in another holding area, drove away with her children and called for help. The victim and her two children were transported to Florida Hospital Flagler by rescue personnel.
The 3-year-old boy suffered a tear to his right eye, a tear on his mouth, puncture wounds to the chin, puncture wounds, lacerations to his right eye and multiple lacerations to his face and body.
